The five-person crew worked on-site for five days to clear all fines, which was clogging the clarifier. Divers removed fines from a clarifier tank by pumping them out with a 6" hydraulic pump and series of hoses. The goal was to remove as many fines as possible to create more water volume for continued processing.
JPS provide a five-man crew for a confined space dive at this Lousiana Pulp & Paper facility. A hydrolic pump was used in the dive to remove fines from the river intake.
The main focus of this installation was to reduce the amount of dredging. This mill had a very high sludge yield and had to continually dredge at a cost of close to $1 million each year. The BOD and COD were significantly reduced along with the TSS which prevented the mill from closing due to tight effluent restrictions on a small discharge stream during the droughts of 1997, 1998, 2010 and 2011.
